Tell us a little about the person behind the business? I am Katrina mother to a 4.5 yr old son and almost 1 yr old daughter. I’ve wanted to run my own business for such a long time, ever since I was in about year 8 at high school. Now I’m actually doing it, it is a dream come true.
And now a little about the business itself? Market Angel is your ‘one stop shop’ for finding your local children’s markets. In the past I have found that I often knew of local children’s markets, that many of my friends didn’t know about. I realised that many parents like to shop at these markets for their little ones, but often find it difficult to know when they are on.
How did you come up with your business name? I knew I wanted the word “Market” to be a part of the name, but wasn’t sure what to put with it. I tried many different options. While we were on holiday the name Market Angel came to me, and then for the next week or so I kept seeing either pictures of angels or the word angel. I took that to be a positive sign, and the decision was made.
What made you want to begin a WAH business and how did you get started? I’ve always wanted to work for myself, and now with two young children, it is the perfect way to follow my dreams and also help contribute financially to the family. It has been a slow process, the idea for Market Angel started nearly 18mths ago and has changed and developed so much in that time. I finally decided it was time to put my idea into action and started researching and planning. I’m glad I didn’t rush into it as I’m really pleased with the format it has ended up as.
What motivates you to keep your business going? Seeing as I’m only just starting, the motivation to keep me going during the hard slog of setting everything up has been my love of children’s markets and wanting to be able to share them all with everyone.
How do you advertise your business and which methods have proven more successful? I’m only just starting to research advertising methods, but I really hope Market Angel will get a lot of word of mouth advertising.
How do you juggle your family and your WAH business? Any tips for other WAHPs? Luckily my husband has been on long paternity leave so I can spend most of my time setting up Market Angel, it has been a lot more work than I expected. Once he goes back to work I’m not sure exactly how I’ll juggle things, but most of my work will probably be done in the evenings or if I get some time while my son is at kinder and my daughter is asleep.
And finally, what advice would you give to anyone wanting to start a WAH business? If you really want to do it, go for it. Follow your dreams and especially your passions.
