In the Spotlight: Rock-A-Bye Baby Equipment Hire

Tell us a little about the person behind the business? My name is Danni and I am a mother of one beautiful little girl. I am a University student as well as the owner and operator of Rock-A-Bye Baby Hire.

And now a little about the business itself? Rock-A-Bye Baby Equipment Hire offers a comprehensive baby hire and restraint fitting service.

Many baby products are only required for a limited period before your baby will outgrow them or you no longer require it so hiring can make perfect economical sense.

All our products are outstanding examples within their range and every item is cleaned, safety checked and sanitised before each hire.

All our hired child restraints including capsules, car seats and boosters meet the stringent Australian Standard and have the highest (4 star) rating available by the RTA. There is no compromise on safety. Your restraint will be installed by our trained restraint fitters free of charge.

We have a wide range of baby equipment for hire including baby capsules, convertible car seats, booster seats, breastpumps as well as hammocks, basinettes and portacots to help your baby sleep. Our baby rockers, swings, exersaucers and other baby entertainers can be hired on a short term basis to keep your baby interested and aid their physical, cognitive and mental development.

How did you come up with your business name? It was a song I sang to my daughter when she was little and had trouble sleeping.

What made you want to begin a WAH business and how did you get started? I was struggling with managing school drop offs and pick ups with a husband who travels a great deal for his own business so I started thinking about what I sort of job I could do that would fit in better with family life.

I got started by just getting started really. Met all the statutory and legal requirements with the help of my accountant, then bought enough initial stock to get the ball rolling, had a website built and off we went! It was surprising how quickly it took off.

What motivates you to keep your business going? I love it. I really do enjoy helping families, I love seeing the new babies when I go to hospitals to do fittings or deliveries and the job fits in perfectly with University and family life.

Do you have a current best-selling product or service? Snap N Go Travel Systems- the capsule and stroller are very popular.

How do you advertise your business and which methods have proven more successful? I advertise on the web on many sites, at hospitals, chemists, antenatal clinics, in other media.

Funnily enough the best ad has been a free one on a parenting site.

How do you juggle your family and your WAH business? Any tips for other WAHP’s? I make sure I schedule in family time and I set myself reasonable working hours and do my best not to run over them.

And finally, what advice would you give to anyone wanting to start a WAH business? Go for it. Just do it really. I hesitated and kept wishing and dreaming (and whinging) and now I look back and think? Why didn’t I do this years ago?
