Tell us a little about the person behind the business? My name is Sarah, mother of two gorgeous kids that mean the world to me. I have a three year old daughter, Amelia and an almost two year old son, Aaron. I finished up with my full-time job almost four years ago when my daughter was born. From that moment I knew I didn’t want to go back! I use to work in accounting in the financial services industry, something I enjoyed but being the ambitious person that I am, I always wanted to do something for myself. My interests are spending time with my family, I love cooking and I love eating even more! I really love traveling the world and holidays. I am a Disney fanatic! Disneyland is the greatest place in the world to me, and there are so many other Disney destinations that I hope I can visit with my family some day! I guess that gives a good run down on me, a child at heart that loves to spend time with my family and eat!
And now a little about the business itself? After many years of talking about it and dreaming about it my husband and I finally got our acts together and launched Speedy Cartridge in 2010. We are an online business, delivering great savings on printer ink cartridges and toners. We give our customers the option to by genuine or compatible cartridges which offer even greater savings and are 100% guaranteed. Without the running costs of a store or franchise fees to pay, we are able to offer our customers very competitive prices. We deliver Australia wide and for free for orders of over $80.
How did you come up with your business name? I actually got the idea when I was watching a show on the Play House Disney channel with my kids, Imagination Movers. They kept using the phrase ‘Super Speedy’, which I liked the sound of but we cut it down to just ‘Speedy Cartridge’!
What made you want to begin a WAH business and how did you get started? When my daughter was born, I knew I wanted to do something so I could stay at home with her. Children are only small once and for a very short time, I wanted to enjoy those years with my kids without sacrificing on life style. I got started with the knowledge of my husband who is a printer technician and my own ambition to have our very own business.
What motivates you to keep your business going? My kids and the life style that we hope to lead. I mentioned I love to travel and keeping my business going is essential for me to pursue this!
Do you have a current best-selling product or service? It really varies, it is amazing how many printer models are out there! I have found that the HP cartridges and Canon Pixma cartridges are some of the most popular.
How do you advertise your business and which methods have proven more successful? So far we have just advertised on Facebook and by word of mouth and so far so good!
How do you juggle your family and your WAH business? Any tips for other WAHP’s? It is only early stages for us, so the business doesn’t require a lot of time, but I can see how I will need to manage my time better when sales increase.
And finally, what advice would you give to anyone wanting to start a WAH business? To absolutely go for it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain so give it a try!
