Tell us a little about the person behind the business? My name is Joanna. I live with my wonderful husband, son and two cats in beautiful Toowoomba. I have worked in the financial services industry for over 21 years, across most aspects of insurance, banking and finance, specialising in life risk for the last eight.
And now a little about the business itself? Traill Financial Services was established by me in 2009, and I operate it from an office at home.
I can advise on and arrange Life risk insurance for an individual, a family or business. The majority of my clients at present are either local or in the Northern Territory and Northern WA. With a phone, email & the internet I can assist people anywhere in the country.
How did you come up with your business name? It’s a combination of my name and what I do. It needed to be simple and convey what we are about.
What made you want to begin a WAH business and how did you get started? After working for others for 20 years it was high time to try it for myself. The company I worked for encouraged me all the way and I still work with them, just not for them.
What motivates you to keep your business going? I love being in control of my own destiny, building something for my family.
How do you advertise your business and which methods have proven more successful? This is a relatively new business so I am just starting to advertise and market the business. I promote the website and have started targeted mail outs and currently have a radio advert running on 4WK in Toowoomba & on the Darling Downs.
How do you juggle your family and your WAH business? Any tips for other WAHPs? Organisation and planning. I do the bulk of my work while my son is at school. I am flexible too, if I have to work in the evening or on the weekend to help out a client, I will do it.
And finally, what advice would you give to anyone wanting to start a WAH business? Do your research, find something you are good at, listen to those in a position to help, ignore those who seek to bring you down but most importantly, do something you love.
